My first experience with black denim was not the best one. When I was 17 years old, I got in a fender bender and needed to get a job to pay for some minor car repairs and ended up at a hostess at Black Angus Steak House (which, as a non-meat-eating adult, I recognize is a bit comical). Our uniform was an oversized white oxford shirt, black jeans and black non-slip shoes. Simple as it was, there was nothing attractive about the way it all came together and I basically swore off black jeans from the moment I quit. Until this year, that is.

I decided to give it another try after seeing my friend Jacqueline wearing a pair of high risers from Madewell at our bible study Christmas party. She just made them look so chic! I knew I needed to copy her. And copy her is exactly what I did, because the jeans you see in these photos are the same style she was wearing that night. Though I most often wear them with a chambray button down, I really love how they ended up looking with this soft, loose top I also got at Madewell. I finished it off with my favorite little brown crossbody and heeled sandals for a feminine touch.

Outfit Details

Madewell jeans, Madewell shirt, Madewell bag, Natalie Borton necklace (coming soon), Merona sandals (similar)

I love black denim. It’s a sneaky way for me to wear jeans to work (I’m a teacher) on a non-Friday. Now I want a distressed pair for non-school days. ;)

This is probably my all time favorite outfit of yours ever, and probably just THE best outfit ever. I love everything about it and cannot wait until I’m not pregnant anymore and can copy it this Fall with some booties and a trench to stay warm!
