Fresh-Faced Summer Makeup

Though I like to keep makeup light year-round, I do find that the products I use sometimes rotate by season. Lately, I’ve found a great little morning routine that take just a few minutes to do and leaves me fresh-faced for the day—a good thing during warmer—and sweatier—summer months.

You’ll notice there isn’t any mascara shown, and that’s because I tend to skip it in the summer for a really natural look. If I had to recommend a product, though, I’d say try Clinique Lash Power Feathering Mascara in brown (unless you have really dark hair). It’s the most natural-looking mascara I’ve found and it doesn’t clump.

Here’s a peek at my little routine…

Fresh-Faced Summer Makeup | Thoughts By Natalie

ARGAN OIL // When I wake up in the morning, I wipe my face with a damp wash cloth and apply argan oil immediately. Alternatively, if I take a shower, that’s my first step in moisturizing once I’m dried off. I love how light it is on the skin while also being ultra moisturizing. It’s been a good moisturizer for me during my dry skin days and my more oily pregnancy skin days. I’d recommend it to anyone, though if you’re wanting it to feel really light, try Josie Maran Argan Oil Light.

SUNSCREEN // Once the oil has completely absorbed into my skin, I move on to sunscreen because I like applying sunscreen with a moisturized face. This summer I’m using Eucerin Daily Protection Face Lotion with SPF 30. Though it’s technically a moisturizer in itself, I don’t think it does a good enough job to be used alone (hence, the argan oil beforehand).

LIQUID MAKEUP // After searching high and low for the perfect concealer, I still prefer Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup to cover spots to any concealer on the market (the shade I use is Fresh Beige). I don’t use it everywhere—just small areas where I need some coverage—and it always looks really clean and natural. For days when I have a really noticeable spot, I add Physician’s Formula green concealer before putting the makeup on for fuller coverage. (NOTE: for scars, I’ve used Mederma Scar Gel and I have to say, it totally works. Give it a try if you have stubborn acne spots that won’t disappear.)

BROW PENCIL // Of all the brow pencils I’ve tried, Sonia Kashuk Brow Definer has stood the test of time. And it comes at a great price point. The shade I use is taupe.

BROW GEL // To keep brow hairs from straying, I like to finish my brows with a tinted brow gel. I’ve been using the Sonia Kashuk Tinted Brow Gel for a while now and still love it.

(Not sure how to fill in your brows? Here’s how I do mine.)

BRONZER // Every summer face needs a healthy glow! A light brush of bronzer does wonders for that sun-kissed, been-at-the-beach-all-summer look. My current favorite is the E.L.F. Baked Bronzer.

HIGHLIGHTER // Another must-have of mine for that fresh, healthy skin look. I discovered the Sonia Kashuk Chic Luminosity Highlighter Stick back in March and it’s been part of the rotation ever since. The shade I use is sparkling sands. Not sure how to apply it? Here’s a quick guide.
