The photo above pretty much encapsulates how I envision my life as I read our July book club pick: beach, stripes, and a good read in hand. This month we’ll be diving into a memoir that caught my attention last week while perusing one of my new favorite blogs, Luella & June.
Our book club pick for July will be What Remains by Carole Radziwill. A memoir of the author’s own life, What Remains is part fairy tale, part tragedy: from humble beginnings, to becoming an award-winning television producer to marrying a prince—Anthony Radziwill—who was one of a long line of Polish royals and nephew of President John F. Kennedy. From Barnes & Noble…
“Carole Radziwill has an anthropologist’s sensibility and a journalist’s eye. She writes about families—their customs, their secrets, and their tangled intimacies—with remarkable acuity and humanity. She explores the complexities of marriage, the importance of friendship, and the challenges of self-invention with unflinching honesty. This is a compelling story of love, loss, and, ultimately, resilience.”
I don’t know about you, but I think this sounds like a perfect summer read. If you’ll be reading along (I hope you will be!), please join the Facebook event page to interact with one another—sharing thoughts, questions, favorite quotes, etc—over the course of your reading :)
Will you be reading along this month?
