merry christmas, love the bortons

Merry Christmas, dear friends! Brian and I are with my parents this week and enjoying every moment of the relaxation that comes from being home. My parents have the gift of hospitality like no other, and time spent here always leaves us feeling rested and refreshed.

I love that every family has its own Christmas schedule and traditions. On the agenda for us tomorrow morning? Drinking our coffee, opening gifts, eating brunch at home (courtesy of my dad), and of course, sipping Christmas mimosas in the hot tub. Later in the afternoon we’ll have a hearty holiday meal in our pajamas and end the day with a good movie.

More than a just fun and celebratory day (which it inevitably is!), Christmas carries a much deeper meaning, and I want to take a moment to note what that is. Often forgotten in the midst of parties and presents, the real reason for the season is the birth of the one and only Jesus Christ. If you have never read the Christmas story as told in the Bible (or simply want a refresher!), I hope you’ll join me in reading Luke 2:1-20 before your head hits the pillow this Christmas Eve. If you don’t own a Bible or have one handy, you can read the story here.

I’ve decided to give myself a real Christmas vacation and take time off from working through January 2. But don’t worry, I’m not totally abandoning you! Instead, I’ll be re-posting some archived posts that I think you’ll really enjoy—plus Instagramming bits of my holiday vacay for sure (follow if you wish!). So keep coming back and reading, and I’ll catch up with you for real in 2013!

Wishing you the merriest holiday filled with love, joy, family and friends.

When are you spending Christmas this year? What does your Christmas day look like?
