It’s honestly one of my all-time favorite outfit combos. I love the way the monochromatic look elongates my not-so-tall body, and I really appreciate the fact that denim is basically kid-proof. It is the ultimate mom fabric! I feel both chic and invincible whenever I wear a version of this outfit, which is probably why I reach for it over and over. To update my usual take on it, I added a bandana—my new favorite accessory—as well as my favorite block-heeled sandals. • • • Liked today’s outfit? You’ve seen it several times here on the blog (like here, here and here) and I honestly wear it at least 1-2 times a week. It works for date nights, work days and even lounging around the house and I love how easily it can be dressed up or down. It’s super soft, affordable ($100 is an amazing price for a cashmere sweater!), and it’s responsibly made. As far as the rest of the outfit goes, I honestly don’t wear these flares often, but every couple of months I get an itch to put them on and always love the 70s vibe I get from them. To emphasize my waist since they’re high rise, I used a clear elastic to create a faux knot in my sweater. It’s a trick I use a lot with skirts in the summer, but works equally well here. I finished the look with my go-to Madewell crossbody, simple ankle boots and a necklace from my shop (which is still available—hooray!). • • • Liked today’s outfit? This mix of my off shoulder top and new cage heels with otherwise incredibly casual overalls is a different take on a date night look. That being said, if your husband hates your overalls, maybe pick this look for girls’ night out ;) The off shoulder top can also be pulled up on the shoulders like in this look. You can take a peek at the rest of the looks in the mini-series here. Stay tuned for some non-overalls looks next week! • • • Liked today’s outfit? It’s way more bohemian than I usually go, but the neutral color scheme and tried-and-true Madewell denim made it all feel like not too much of a stretch. I really love the contrast of a billowy top with this super fitted overalls, and the lace detailing on the top is a really nice feminine touch. The platform wedges I’m wearing here are absolutely one of the most comfortable pairs of shoes I own. I kid you not, I can wear them all day long with Jack and my feet don’t bother me at all. They feel so supportive and the thick strap really keeps them in place on my feet. If you’re in the market for a pair, I can’t recommend them enough! That being said, this outfit can easily handle a shoe switch for more comfort—if I wanted to wear flats instead, I’d go for my favorite Sam Edelman t-strap sandals. • • • Liked today’s outfit? I snagged this pair at Target after seeing so many bloggers style theirs perfectly but never really got around to working them into my regular wardrobe. Then my friend Jenn came to visit for New Year’s Eve and she was wearing the very same ones I owned (and looking adorable doing so!) and I knew I needed to make an effort to wear them myself. I really love them here with the overalls, but am excited to pair them with some of the more feminine pieces in my wardrobe this year, namely dresses. I rounded out the look with a stripe tee—a never-fail option with overalls—and some other tan accessories, including my favorite bag and a beautiful watch Daniel Wellington sent over before the holidays. Also, can we talk for a minute about Jack in that first photo?! This is a look I am surprised I love so much. I admittedly got this shirt a while back and have worn it probably once, but when searching for options to wear with these new overalls it was basically shouting at me from the hanger! The pattern adds a playful touch and reads as feminine, which balances the masculine loafers. I always have this diaper clutch in my car so I’m never without wipes and a couple of diapers, and I loved using it as a bare minimum bag here. It easily fits my keys and phone along with a travel wipes pack and a diaper. This is absolutely an outfit worthy of playing at the park with a toddler while also looking chic and put together. I think it’s perfect for a day date or a vacation, and if you switched out the shoes for flat sandals (like these!) this is an amazing legit mom style look that’s chic and totally appropriate for playing on the ground with your little ones. This top is actually an off-shoulder top—as seen here—that I wore over my shoulders for a flowy tee kind of look. The fuller silhouette of the top is a fun contrast to the slim fitting overalls and really draws attention to the waist. So when Madewell came out with a new super slim fitting pair, I went right over to the store to try them on and—of course—fell in love with them. Admittedly, I felt a little torn before buying them though. Did I really need a second pair of overalls? Are they too trendy? Will I really get that much wear out of them? I ultimately decided that, YES, I did want a second pair and I would commit to finding several different ways to wear them because they are so flattering and I really feel amazing in them. Thus, this series. It’s part of the Legit Mom Style series because while you obviously don’t need to be a mom to rock them, they are absolutely perfect for those of us running around after wild little children. The fit of these overalls is magical—they are super high rise and not only draw attention to the slimmest part of your waist, but also really flatter your backside. I found these laser cut ankle boots at Target last week and knew I had to make them mine. They have a split side that makes them easy to get on and off and I think they are going to look so good with dresses as the weather warms up. I love this taupe color that is part tan, part grey and the pointed toe makes them extra special and flattering. To make them the focus of the outfit, I paired them with a monochromatic shirt and sweater combo and my favorite high rise blue jeans. The boots are also available in black and they fit true to size ;) OUTFIT DETAILS J.Crew shirt, Target sweater (similar), Madewell jeans (similar), Mossimo Supply Co. ankle boots, Hobo bag (c/o) Photos by Sydney Roach for Thoughts by Natalie]]> https://thoughtsbynatalie.com/2017/01/laser-cut-ankle-boots.html/feed 7 Grown Up Overalls https://thoughtsbynatalie.com/2017/01/how-to-wear-overalls.html https://thoughtsbynatalie.com/2017/01/how-to-wear-overalls.html#comments Thu, 26 Jan 2017 00:12:08 +0000 https://thoughtsbynatalie.com/?p=18486 Citizens of Humanity overalls, Madewell top (similar), Madewell shoes (c/o), Hobo bag (c/o), RAEN sunglasses via DITTO (get your first month free with the code DITTONATALIE) It’s sort of hilarious to me that I’m wearing overalls…at 30 years old. I never would’ve guessed these would come back into style but I am so glad they did because not only are they incredibly comfortable, but they’re also so, so practical for motherhood! I balanced out the casual vibe of the jeans with fancier details, which is one of my favorite strategies for casual-chic dressing. I chose a bell-sleeve top, pointed flats and my go-to black leather bag. It was a perfect outfit for a play-date the park that was both cozy and stylish.
