I love the way a base layer of black can create a chic palette, and the softness of camel tones keeps the whole look from being too much. I also love adding gold metallic details into the mix—like a pendant necklace, and shoes with a buckle. This works for the everyday, and also for more casual holiday gatherings. I wore this look earlier this week to run errands and host a friend for dinner (awesome for having company over since it’s so, so comfortable—but not in an embarrassing, I’m-in-my-pajamas kind of way), and let me just say, I felt both sexy and cozy. I’ll definitely be keeping this look in the rotation. Mossimo Open Sweater // Bauble Bar Deco Medallion Pendant Necklace // Mossimo Supply Co. My view on style is that it is a form of self-expression—not a tool for comparison or vanity. I honestly do not believe that there is even good style and bad style. It’s truly a matter of opinion, and what we choose to wear should always be a reflection of who we are and how we feel, rather than something to get attention or compliments. Over the past month I’ve realized there are a lot of clothes I’m hanging onto that I don’t really wear and I don’t really love, and it’s gotten me thinking about what it is I do love and what clothes make me feel most like me. The answer? Neutrals. Lots and lots of neutrals. I’ll write a lot more on this later (specifically, how to create a small, chic, neutral wardrobe that works), but for now I give you a smidgen of inspiration from my closet—simple, cozy, chic and 100% my style—oh, and of course it includes the most perfect cozy sweater. It’s absolutely one of my new wardrobe staples! Wear it out and about, with comfy layers on Thanksgiving day, or just at home with your jammies—either way, it totally works. Did I mention it’s super soft? I purchased it yesterday (and styled it this way), and let me just say, it was a pretty big hit. I’m totally obsessed with it and I have a feeling you will be too. Ankle boots are comfortable, casual, chic and pair easily with anything (jeans, leggings, dresses, skirts, you name it!). I personally wear mine almost everyday—mostly with a skirt (here, here and here) or skinny jeans (here, here, here and here), and sometimes with my favorite Hudson jeans. These are a few of my absolute favorites at the moment. SHOP THE POST: Dolcetta Cutout Boot ($69) I adore everything about these boots—from the cutouts and wraparound strap to the polished buckle and stacked heel. Lately, I’m really into mixing feminine with masculine, casual with chic and edgy with preppy. This felt sort of like a jumble of all of that in the best way. Comfortable, casual and cool, I knew I needed to incorporate them into my wardrobe as soon as possible. And thanks to birthday money from my parents and grandmother (and some time to shop in New York), I finally made those babies mine—plus the embroidered cap, striped shirt and stunning crystal necklace I’ve had my eye on for months. I paired my black faux leather skirt with a cozy white sweater to balance out the edginess. And since I never tire of neutrals, I kept the whole look in that category by choosing brown accessories. And of course, I couldn’t help but wear some of my new purchases on the train to Rhode Island this morning! If you don’t own a chambray top yet, I highly recommend it—it’s perfect for travel, as it can be mixed with anything and layered super easily. Also, I’ve been known to use it as a coverup over my swimsuit. You know you want one. Now, for a bridal shower I attended recently, I decided to go with a more edgy look than the traditional nice dress I’d choose for showers. The edginess, of course, comes from the faux leather skirt and the ankle boots. To keep myself from looking overdone during the day time—and create a more casual-cool vibe—I went with the chambray top. And of course, for a hint of playful sweetness, I threw on my favorite crystal and pearl necklace. They are so classic and versatile, and never go out of style. Below is a piece I did for Glitter Guide last week featuring some stunning neutral looks spotted on my favorite style bloggers. After a few summer months spent sporting our favorite brightly patterned dresses and fluorescent manicures, we’re ready to refine our wardrobe palettes for fall. Bright colors are great, but nothing says sophisticated and stylish quite like a neutral autumn outfit. We love seeing neutral hues on timeless silhouettes like blazers, just as much as we adore them on modern, trendy pieces like sweatshirts and ponchos. Dressing in colors as classic as neutral tans, grays and soft blues is a surefire way to put together a chic and effortless look. SHOP THE POST: Blazer & Skinnies You can’t go wrong with a blazer and jeans. We love the way our editorial director Caitlin styled her denim on denim, dressing it up with a blazer, accessories a clutch and heels.
