I went to the doctor and she said it’s just a nasty cold that’s going around that can last up to 4 weeks. Ugh. Many of you have messaged me to say you have it too, and I’m so sorry we’re all in the same boat. Here’s hoping this next week is when we finally get healthy! Their clothes definitely skew masculine (which I love) and I find they have a look that is really similar to Madewell in a lot of ways. Even better, they have a fully transparent business that makes them a real leader in responsible and ethical fashion. These are some of their pieces I’m saving up for at the moment… The Cashmere Square Crew, $125 I’m wearing the original cashmere crew in the photo above, as well as here and here, but I really love this updated square version. I know already that Everlane’s cashmere is super soft and holds up over time—I wear mine a lot! I’d love to have the ivory color in my wardrobe! The Silk Sleep Set, $98 A perfect mix of comfort and luxury, don’t you think? The navy color with white piping is gorgeous. The Stretch Ponte Crop Pant, $78 Since I’m not that tall, these would likely fit right at my ankle, which is ideal. I love the way ponte pants have a leggings look but are much more put-together thanks to the thicker fabric. The Modern Oxford, $168 The blush color is so, so lovely and would […]]]> 9 Happy Weekend: What I Loved This Week Fri, 06 Jan 2017 16:56:47 +0000 I’ve officially been sick for the entire first week of the new year! The only real benefit has been that it’s forced me to slow down and do nothing that can’t be done from the comfort of my living room. I’ve been reading A TON (mostly notably Shauna Niequist’s Present Over Perfect and The Editors of Goop’s Goop Clean Beauty) and eating more vegetables that I have in years in hopes of boosting my immune system. So although I wish I wasn’t a phlegm machine right now, I do appreciate that sickness has already started to force me into some solid self-care habits. Anyway, here are some favorite things I’ve read over the course of my sick week. Hope you’re feeling better than I am! Why time management is ruining our lives. My second Madewell pop-up event (which I co-hosted with Chrissy Powers this time) went well and was really fun.The lighting is terrible, but I’m so glad we were able to snap a few photos because it was a great night. Last time I had a ton of friends come to the event, and while I certainly had that this time, I also had a chance to meet a lot more new people. My favorite part was helping out the guys Christmas shopping for their wives, girlfriends and sisters—if you are reading this and a man in your life got you one of my necklaces from the pop-up shop, I can personally tell you he LOVES you and was really concerned with finding you the perfect gift ;) In a nutshell, I am just so grateful to have the opportunity to sell my products in a store I love so much, even just for a few hours at a time. Already looking forward to the next time! I’m thinking about a lot more than fashion of course, but since this is primarily a style blog I thought it would be fun to look back on some of my favorite looks from the past year. Silk Island Skirt | My idea of a perfect date night outfit. Those sandals are by far the most-worn pair in my closet, too! Off Shoulder Top | This is one of my favorite looks ever. It’s simple and sexy and effortless. Also, looking back on this makes me miss my hair extensions! I definitely plan to experiment with them and my shorter hair to see if I can create a long braid still. Ryder Cardigan | The softest, coziest sweater in my wardrobe for sure. I especially loved mixing tan and grey here. Note to self: do that more often. Black Blazer | My version of a power outfit. I always feel put-together in a well-fitting blazer. Faux Fur Stole + The Paige Tassel Necklace | This faux fur stole made my entire wardrobe holiday-worth in a snap. It is so incredibly soft, and it easily transformed a simple outfit into […]]]> 0 Grey Cashmere Thu, 29 Dec 2016 23:21:52 +0000 Everlane sweater (c/o), Madewell jeans (c/o), Sam & Libby boots (similar), Old Navy scarf, Daniel Wellington watch (c/o, get 15% off with code NATALIEB), Natalie Borton necklace A cashmere sweater and oversized blanket scarf make for a dreamy (and cozy) combo on a chilly winter morning. I wore this on my dad’s birthday for a little trip to the Salton Sea. It’s a really eerie and strangely beautiful place. Looking back at these photos it really looks like I’m on another planet! My favorite part of it is the mountains behind the water—isn’t that just stunning? This cashmere sweater was a gift from Everlane that arrived just before Christmas. After wearing my black one so often for the past year or so (even just around the house!), it’s nice to have a new luxe sweater in the rotation. Not only is it a great price, but the quality and softness are amazing. One other thing of note—I’ve recently discovered a pretty brilliant mascara combo I wanted to share. First I curl my lashes (always!), then do one coat of Pixi by Petra Lacquer Lash Primer and one coat of Maybelline Full ‘N Soft Mascara. It is miraculous. You’re welcome ;) […]]]> 2 Plaid Peplum Tue, 27 Dec 2016 16:24:12 +0000 Madewell top, Madewell jeans (c/o), Sam & Libby boots (similar), Target sweater (similar and similar) How was your Christmas? We visited my parents out in La Quinta and it was just lovely. We spent the whole morning stretching out our present-opening while sipping coffee and mimosas and eating runny eggs on biscuits. Jack quickly caught on to the fact that he was getting more than just one gift, and it was fun to see him open each one with wide eyes and a big smile. His favorites? A Bruder trash truck and a large plastic cement truck (surprise, surprise). After all the excitement, Jack was too wired to nap so we took out the golf carts and cruised around looking for big horn sheep. And of course I couldn’t resist wearing my brand new plaid peplum I opened that morning. It’s from Madewell (where else?!) and admittedly more colorful than my usual picks, but the red is deep and muted and I love it so much. The fabric is super soft and comfortable, and I basically didn’t want to take it off until the last moment of the day. I paired it with my new favorite 10″ high rise jeans and an […]]]> 5 Real Talk Real Moms | Birth Stories Thu, 22 Dec 2016 12:00:28 +0000 Today I’m so honored to be joining in on a series I’ve been reading for over a year! I first wrote my birth story right after Jack was born, and today I’m sharing it again as part of Jen Pinkston’s Real Talk Real Moms series. Now that Jack is TWO YEARS OLD (how did that happen?!) we are definitely starting to talk about the idea of having another baby one day, so it’s fun to look back and think about how our baby boy came into the world. If you’re not into motherhood posts feel free to skip this and come on back tomorrow ;) Rewind to 2014… I had my last prenatal appointment with my OB on Tuesday, September 16th. Overdue and still only 1cm dilated, we decided to schedule an induction for Thursday night. Brian took the day off to enjoy our final baby-free day together. We had a slow, leisurely morning of reading, breakfast at Einstein’s and watching Netflix before my parents came over to help us knock some final things off our list. By 5:30pm, we were out to dinner, feeling excited to meet Jack! At the restaurant, I started feeling pretty awful. My back was […]]]> 1 Black Blazer Tue, 20 Dec 2016 16:44:46 +0000 Merona blazer (similar), Madewell tee, Madewell jeans (similar), Madewell shoes (c/o), Hobo bag (c/o), RAEN sunglasses via DITTO (get your first month free with the code DITTONATALIE) Want to know my secret for looking instantly chic and put together (while wearing a simple pair of jeans and a tee shirt)? THE BLAZER. Every time I wear it I think, why don’t I wear this more often? A well-fitting blazer is a miracle worker! I currently own three—this one I’m wearing, a grey one that has a more boxy and casual fit and a longer olive green one I honestly have forgotten about. I’ve managed to find all three blazers at a great price, but let me tell you, it’s no easy feat. Blazers really do need to fit you perfectly, especially in the shoulders, so I think it’s worth paying up or seeking out a high-end brand second hand to get a good quality one for a deal. In my experience, J.Crew consistently makes amazing blazers, but if you know of other place that do let everyone know in the comments! You guessed it…black and tan. It’s the perfect neutral mix. Black—my favorite color to wear—can sometimes feel harsh and cold. But when I mix in warm tan elements, it adds depth that I love. This whole outfit is filled with classic pieces that I never seem to tire of: high rise skinnies, a cashmere sweater, pointed loafers, my trusty tan crossbody, a blanket scarf and of course a Natalie Borton necklace ;) The jeans are my newest pair from Madewell and I love the dark wash that has plenty of stretch and softness. And this sweater is one I’ve had for a couple of years now. It’s so soft and beautiful still, I want it in heather grey, ivory and pale pink too! Lastly, these photos really show how much of an impact a scarf can have on an outfit. If I switched it out for a different pattern (or even this stole), the same outfit would have a totally different feel. Accessories really help a minimalist wardrobe go the distance!
