This skirt (the Silk Island Skirt from Madewell) is two things…
- Way outside of my normal comfort zone
- My most recent go-to item for summer
Since I’ve been wearing it over and over and sharing photos of it on Instagram and the Legit Mom Style series, I thought it could be helpful to dedicate a post to how I’ve been styling it. Because in reality, I’m sticking with a very simple no-fail formula and just changing out shirt!
The key for me? Knot. That. Top. For a skirt of this length on my body type, I need to draw attention to my waist for it to be flattering. More often than not, I stick with a cotton racerback tank, but I also have done a sweater and used a clear elastic to help secure a “knot” and it’s created the same waist-defining look. Another important thing (especially if you’re 5’4″ or under like me) is to stick with shoes that are close in color to your skin tone to keep from looking too “cut off” at the legs.
Do you have this skirt? What have you been wearing it with?
