The Best Places to Shop for Maternity Clothes

I get asked all the time by pregnant friends and readers about maternity style and shopping recommendations, so I figured it was time to compile my wisdom into one place :) Let’s kick things off by chatting about the maternity wardrobe in general, and then move on to my favorite places to shop for budget pieces, investment pieces and accessories.

Buying maternity clothes is a bit depressing since you really only get to wear them for a short while—all while your body is growing at an exponential rate. So, when pregnant, I recommend abiding by two rules.

Rule #1: Black is a pregnant woman’s best friend.
Rule #2: Minimal clothes, maximum accessories.

Consider the season you’ll be pregnant to determine your basics, and buy things that can mix and match. Personally, I recommend getting a lot of things in black because it really is flattering on the pregnant body, and it’s so easy to wear over and over again. My two absolute must-haves? A pair of black leggings to wear under long tops and around the house, a black maxi dress, and a black swing dress.

ASOS // This is probably my top pick for all-things maternity. The price points are great, and they have so many pieces to choose from. I personally lived in my black swing dress from ASOS all summer long.

Old Navy // Though the fit of the Old Navy maternity clothes can be hit or miss, these are the most affordable hands down. Luckily, they offer free shipping for orders over $50, and free returns always so you can try on the clothes in the comfort of your own home and easily send back anything that doesn’t work.

Mitera Collection // I recently discovered this brand and really wish I’d known about it sooner. Designed for the maternity and postpartum seasons, they are specifically designed with breastfeeding moms in mind. While all the dresses definitely have high price points, these give you a ton of versatility and can be worn for years thanks to classic styles that are flattering on the postpartum figure and make nursing a breeze.

HATCH Collection // If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you are no stranger to HATCH Collection, which I basically lived in over the summer during my pregnancy. Also made to be worn during and after pregnancy, I recommend getting neutral, timeless pieces to get the most value out of your purchase. The Bateau Top is one I wore my entire pregnancy, and still a top I reach for week after week.

BaubleBar // For jewelry, this is my go-to. They have so many styles at affordable price points, making it easy to stock up on good jewelry to compliment more basic maternity clothes.

Sole Society // This is my current favorite spot to shop for shoes. If you don’t have them already, I recommend getting a pair of sturdy ankle boots and a fun pair of sandals that are easy to walk in. Chic shoes really do wonders for a simple outfit!

Target // When in doubt, go to Target. They have seriously stepped up their game for accessories and have tons of lightweight infinity scarves, funky sunglasses and bold bags to complete any outfit.

P.S. Summer maternity style ideas and a modern, neutral baby registry.
