8 Retro-Inspired Summer Swimsuits

May 9, 2013

Below is an article I did for Glitter Guide this week, featuring 8 retro-inspired swimsuits that are chic, modest, and perfect additions to our swim wardrobes this summer. Scroll down to read it in full, and check out the original on Glitter Guide’s website.

Summer is coming, and you know what that means—swim season! While the thought of trying on swimsuits might be a difficult one to entertain at the moment, we’re thrilled that modest swimwear is back in style! We love the extra coverage that retro and vintage styles offer—not to mention, they’re just as sexy as modern bikinis (and often more stylish!). Pair one of these stunning suits with a wide-brimmed floppy hat for an ultra-chic, classic summer look!

Tory Burch Solemar One-Piece ($225)
This timeless and elegant one-piece is quite figure-flattering, thanks to the open-weave trim and balconette-style underwire top!

Victoria’s Secret Firm Control Retro One-Piece ($158.50)

This suit offers a classic silhouette with a figure-shaping fabric that keeps everything in its place!

Kushcush Lovey Jumper One Piece ($165)

This jumper style is refreshingly looser than most one-piece styles today. We love how the tie-waist adds definition and keeps the whole suit feeling feminine.

Shabby Apple Deckwork Swimsuit ($80 for top, $35 for bottoms)

This red-and-white suit is the epitome of retro! The halter neckline plus side and back ruching make for a flattering and flirty tankini top. And the midrise bottoms provide full coverage!

J.Crew Graphic Dot Bikini ($39.99 for top, $34.99 for bottoms)

An easy way to dip your toes into retro swimwear this season? Start with a high-waisted bikini! We adore this polka-dot set from J.Crew, which features a chic, supportive underwire top as well as flattering brief bottoms.

Lenny Niemeyer Ruched Halter Maillot ($221)

This suit provides all-over coverage, but the neckline cutout adds an undeniably sexy touch.

What Katie Did Ties On My Side One Piece ($134.99)

We love the old Hollywood vibe of this swimsuit. The side cutouts add a little modernity—and also create the illusion of a smaller waist and hips!

J.Crew Colorblock Short-Sleeve Tank ($98)

For anyone who wants extra coverage, this short-sleeve tank has a figure-flattering colorblock element that makes the waist look small. And how darling is that exposed back zipper?

Are you into retro and vintage swimwear? Which style is your favorite?
