The Baked Bear

Ice cream. Fresh cookies. Donuts. I recently discovered The Baked Bear and let me tell you…I think they’re going to start to recognize me in the store this summer because I will be a regular for sure. A couple weeks ago I had a chance to go to one of their new store opening media events in Carmel Valley and taste anything I wanted on the menu. Obviously I said yes, because I would’ve been crazy not to. Brian and Jack came along with me and we made it a family affair.

How does it all work? They serve freshly baked, gourmet cookies paired with premium ice cream—and you get to handpick your ice cream sandwich elements. There are tons of handmade cookies to choose from, plus a donut or brownie option if that’s what you’re feeling. Then you get to choose an ice cream flavor for the middle and boom—custom, handmade ice cream sandwich.

In addition to the sandwiches, they also do sundaes, which Brian and I tried at the store opening event. Though less novel than the custom sandwich, it was super tasty and also much less messy since we didn’t end up with ice cream dripping down our arms. Plus, there was a huge brownie on the bottom so you really can’t go wrong with that.

Whether you live in San Diego or are visiting, it’s a great spot to satisfy a sweet tooth and definitely has my stamp of approval ;)

P.S. My thoughts on the donut ice cream sandwich.

My coworker introduced me to this place and I was so impressed! They also have one in La Costa and at Petco so we’re all set for summer!
