6 Fall Essentials

Fall is now in full swing, and I confess I’m doing a lot of online shopping lately. As always, I love to invest in classic, mostly neutral pieces that stand the test of time. Below are six items that are perfect for fall—both right now, and in years to come—all of which I’ll be sporting myself this season!

1. Ankle Boots

I cannot emphasize this essential enough. I can honestly say that I wear my ankle boots more than any other pair of shoes in my closet. They go with everything, are super comfortable, and even add a bit of height—something I love since I’m not that tall. I have two pairs that I switch off between, a brown pair and a black pair. But if I had to choose just one, I’d go with the brown. I just feel like they’re so much more versatile.

Feeling super bold? Try something with an animal print, which still plays as a neutral but has so much more sass.

2. Long-Sleeved Dress

Depending on where you live, you can wear this bare-legged or with tights. Dress it up with heels, dress it down with flats, or give the whole look a cool vibe with your ankle boots. However you plan to style it, I recommend choosing a neutral color—like this black shirtdress from Old Navy—to give you the most flexibility throughout the season.

3. Leather (or Faux) Bag

Ever since Hobo sent me their Sheila bag to try out, I’ve been carrying it around as my primary bag. Though I’m not usually one to spend a lot on bags, I can honestly say that now that I know how much I use it, I would absolutely go back in time and dish out the cash for it myself! Another worthy investment is the Madewell Transport Tote—ideally with your monogram. So classic and timeless, you’ll have it forever.

Even if you’re not ready to spend a lot, there are tons of good-quality faux leather options to choose from. My favorite places to look for bargain bags are Target and Old Navy.

4. Wide-Brimmed Hat
For an instant dose of chic, the wide-brimmed hat is where it’s at. Perfect for bad hair days or bad weather days, too! I recently tried on this beauty at Anthropologie and would have bought it had it not been so similar to the one I already own.

5. Black Leggings or Skinnies
These are certainly the most versatile pants for fall, as they can be dressed up or dressed down. Pair leggings with tunic-length tops or longer button-downs. For skinnies, try tucking in just the front of your shirt for a casual-chic vibe that happens to be incredibly flattering.

My personal go-to is the Pixie pant from J.Crew—I have the original pair, as well as the newest edition with the leather detail. Another great option—with a bit more coverage for your bum—is black denim. Madewell makes a gorgeous pair of jeans in “rebel wash” that would work well, and Old Navy has a super affordable pair in their Rockstar fit.

6. Poncho or Blanket Wrap
I don’t know about you, but I’m seeing this trend everywhere this season. And since it’s such a cozy style, I can’t resist buying into it. I definitely will be sporting some nursing ponchos around town, but am also considering adding a blanket wrap to my collection. Anthropologie has the best ones, in my opinion! Or, if ponchos are way too weird for you, there’s always this wrap jacket.

Yeah!! I’m so glad you’re back. I love this blog.

These are all the fall items on my wish list right now. Long sleeve dresses are my favorite. And for booties, I’m loving the combat/heel combo too.
