The French Girl Look

Lately I’m completely into the French girl look—effortless, chic, confident and cool. It all started when I was perusing Pinterest for hair inspiration and got completely captivated with Caroline de Maigret’s signature French style. From there, of course, I made a Pinterest board called F R E N C H G I R L dedicated entirely to the whole look and I am totally captivated.

Since I’m sure I’m not alone in this pursuit of effortless French style, I thought I’d share some inspiration, as well as a tiny bit about what really makes up the look.

HAIR tends to bit a bit undone and messy. My personal favorite iconic French hair look, of course, is wavy hair with bangs. There’s something so sexy about it, don’t you think? (For a bit of insight on the look, check out Caroline de Maigret’s interview with Vogue about her hair routine.)

MAKEUP is very natural, and serves to enhance rather than modify facial features. Skin looks clean and fresh, the red lip is a major go-to, and eye makeup is more about mascara and eyeliner than heavy eyeshadows.

STYLE is heavy on flats, neutrals, minimal accessories and quality over quantity. Also, high-low mixing: pairing something expensive with something inexpensive, and pairing dressy pieces with traditionally casual ones.

P.S. The J.Crew look and inspiration for bangs with wavy hair.

The best part is that you’re “half French!”
