Money-Saving Style Swaps for Fall

money-saving-fall-swaps

Now that Labor Day is past us and September has arrived, it’s probably safe to say that most of us have fall on the brain. And though the weather may take a few weeks to get with the program, now is when we’re starting to think about fall wardrobes—especially what to add as we enter a new season. Though I’m big on quality over quantity, I never like to spend more money than necessary on something. Thus, I’ve put together a list of some money-saving style swaps that I hope will help you out as you pick and choose what to spend on and what to save on. Personally, I’ve got my eye on those moto leggings!

Target Tailored Twill Blazer ($34.99) // When in doubt about what to wear, jeans, a tee and a well-fitting blazer are an easy fall solution. Though you can’t go wrong with classic black, plaid is more festive and fun for the fall season. Compare to J.Crew Schoolboy Blazer in Houndstooth ($228)

Nordstrom Faux Leather Stripe Ankle Zip Moto Leggings ($68.00) // Leather and fall are synonymous in my mind. Whether real or faux, it’s an essential detail I want in my wardrobe for an edgy, effortless vibe. This year I’m loving the idea of adding leather-trim leggings to my wardrobe, and I absolutely love the look of these ones from Nordstrom. Compare to J.Crew Pixie Pant in Leather Stripe ($158)

Old Navy Strappy Ankle Boots ($26) // The moment I saw these on Old Navy’s site I knew they looked familiar. So I went back through some of my pins on Pinterest and realized they are a total doppelgänger of a pair from Rag & Bone that cost literally five hundred dollars more. These booties are a total steal and perfect for pairing with dresses and skinnies this season. Compare to Rag & Bone Harrow Bootie ($525)

Old Navy Metallic Gold Penny Loafers ($25) // According to my friend Megan’s latest post for The Everygirl, metallic oxfords are a major fall trend this year. While there are no doubt going to be a ton on the market, I just don’t think you can beat Old Navy’s price at $25. Plus, they’re gold, which in my book makes them superior. Compare to J.Crew Biella Metallic Tassel Loafers ($298)

Old Navy Quilted Zip-Front Puffer Vest ($34.94) // Aside from ankle boots, puffer vests are absolutely my top fall essential. I love how versatile they are as the weather is changing and how easy they are to layer with lighter or warmer pieces depending on your need. While I personally own the J.Crew Excursion Vest thanks to Santa last year, the Old Navy version has the same look for a fraction of the cost—which is ideal when it’s your own money you’re spending! Compare to J.Crew Excursion Quilted Vest ($120)

Old Navy Quilted Jacket ($49.94) // When it comes to jackets, there’s no need to break the bank. This quilted puffer jacket looks super similar to its pricier version, and is probably just as warm. Compare to J.Crew Quilted Puffer Jacket ($168)

Forever 21 Faux Leather Moto Jacket ($18) // As I mentioned earlier about the leggings, leather (or faux leather) is sort of synonymous with fall for me. And a leather jacket is the epitome of cool-girl style. Save hundreds of dollars by opting for a faux version of this classic piece and look just as edgy as you would if you were wearing the real deal. Compare to Madewell Ultimate Leather Motorcycle Jacket ($525)

Dirty Laundry Thumbsup Rain Boot ($49.95) // For rain or snow, I love a classic wellie boot. These are a great investment because they will take you all the way through the spring rainy season. Though there are some really fun patterns and prints out there, black is classic, timeless and goes with everything. Compare to Hunter Sandhurst Tall Rainboot ($175)

Old Navy Crossbody Purse ($24.94) // Hold the top handle or sling it across your shoulder, this versatile bag is a great pick for the season. Both bags also come in a cognac shade, which is my personal preference, though you can’t go wrong with black! Compare to Madewell Berliner Satchel ($218)

Sonia Kashuk Dewy Luxe Lip & Cheek Balm ($9.99) // When it comes to makeup, obviously everyone has their different preferences. Personally, as fall weather enters the picture, I like to trade out my trusty bronzer for a more peachy cheek tint, as well as play around with some lip color. The Sonia Kashuk lip and cheek balm is a perfect multi-tasker for the new season. Compare to Nars Matte Multiple ($39)

LOFT Mirrored Aviator Sunglasses ($24.50) // Just because summer is over doesn’t mean your eyes don’t need protecting. Since fall clothing tends to be more muted in color, consider some bold frames as an accessory to have around for when you’re feeling like you need some color in your life. These would be so dreamy with all black or a black and white outfit, don’t you think? Compare to Ray-Ban Mirror Aviator Sunglasses ($170)

What are you planning to add to your wardrobe this fall? Will you go for investment pieces or budget buys?

Love this! So nice to see a post that has reasonable priced items. Nothing more frustrating than when I see a “bargain issue” that still has items for $200 dollars.

Natalie, this is awesome. I need to get to Old Navy ASAP – is the moral of this story. I love the budget friendly options, and I liked some of them much better than the expensive versions. Well done on this one, friend!

I love all the affordable options! Thanks for sharing them. When I was younger, Old Navy wasn’t the “cool” store but I love them now. You also can’t beat their prices.
