I know that boyfriend jeans have been around forever, but for some reason they never appealed to me. I always thought they looked too baggy, too distressed or too masculine. But lately, I’ve noticed a trend toward slimmer boyfriend jeans and have been wanting a pair for myself. Thankfully, I spotted an awesome pair by Mossimo on clearance at my local Target store for $20 and I just couldn’t pass them up.
Despite the fact that I’m pregnant and growing, I figured they would be a good investment since they’re loose-fitting and would be easy to wear postpartum as well (also…they were only twenty dollars). Now, the only thing I need to figure out is how to style them for my personal preferences and body type. These are my ideas…
My first instinct is pumps, of course, but I think that they would work with pretty ballet flats. Though I’ve seen these pants paired with sneakers, I personally think with such masculine pants, feminine shoes are going to be a must for me. This look is sooooo working in my opinion.
Whether slouchy or fitted or even covered in sequins, I think the top that I pair with these pants needs to have a casual feel to it to match the vibe of the pants. For tops with fancy or flirty details (like this), I think I’d opt for something loose; and for simple tops (like this), I feel like more fitted will be a good way to go to avoid actually looking like a boy.
A belt feels totally necessary with this style, even though my bum will still be able to hold them up all on its own. Also, I imagine that some fun jewelry (like this) could work with the feminine shoes to add girly flair to the masculine silhouette.
As always, I’m all for casual hair. But I think it’s especially important with boyfriend jeans, which are meant to be casual and effortless. I likely would do loose waves, since that’s my go-to look, but I also love the top knot with this look.
Overall, I’m excited to experiment with this slightly man-repelling style of jeans. Brian probably will hate them, but every girl has to have a few sartorially-satisfying items in her wardrobe that guys just don’t understand, right?
