Welcome, Friends!

As I shared last week, I’ve been working on a significant blog update—and this is the product of all of that work! It’s been a full several days of learning what felt like a new language, but I managed to successfully transfer from Blogger to this self-hosted WordPress blog, and find a theme that made this blog more readable and hopefully more fun for you to peruse. Here are the new things to note…

IMPROVED NAVIGATION
The new navigation bar at the top of the screen now includes links to the different categories of posts I share here on the blog—and includes drop-down menus! In the about tab, you’ll be able to access the about page, as well as the advertising, press + features, subscribe and contact pages. Under the category tabs (beauty, style, wellness, life), the drop-down menus include “all …” so you can view everything in the category, and also have links to popular tags within those categories to make it easier to find what you’re looking for. You’ll also notice a book club tab, making it easy for you to see what we’re reading and what we’ve read in the past, in case you’re in need of reading recommendations.

FEATURED POST SLIDER
I’ve wanted a slider on this blog for a while—and I finally got one! Here, the five most recent posts will rotate, making it easy for you to access the latest content.

LATEST POSTS GRID
In addition to the slider, there is now a grid (with thumbnails and brief excerpts) featuring the most recently published posts.

LATEST IN …
If you scroll down below the “latest posts” grid, you’ll notice three of the most recent posts in each major blog category: beauty, style, wellness and life. This makes it easy for you to see the latest posts in your favorite category.

READ PREVIOUS POST BOX
Though this new blog design is quite conducive to exploring, it’s still easy to read posts in order. For those of you who like to read that way, there is a fun new feature that acts as a “previous post” button. Anytime you get to the bottom of the post you’re reading, a little box will swing into the screen, which includes a small thumbnail image, the name of the post, the link and a little description of the post that chronologically was posted before the one you’re reading—just like the New York Times. So cool, right?

NEW ADVERTISING OPTIONS
I’m now offering three advertising options: 1 featured spot, 6 regular ad spots, and sponsored posts. Be sure to swing by the advertising page to see current ad size options and rates.

GUEST AUTHOR BOX
I’ve been so lucky to have several of my blogger friends contribute here over the years, and they finally are getting their very own bio boxes below their posts! It’s a simple update, yes, but I think it’s pretty darn cool. Check out the guest posts to see what I mean :)

I hope you like what you see and find it more enjoyable to peruse and read this blog with this new design. If there’s anything you hate or anything you wish I had that isn’t here, feel free to let me know in the comments section below—I’m always open to feedback!

What do you think of the new site design? All (nicely worded) opinions welcome…

P.S. I’ll be sharing my how-to guide for switching from Blogger to WordPress this week—stay tuned, blogger friends!

I really like this new design. Also, I’ve been following and enjoying your blog for several months now, but have not been able to post comments because it seemed you needed a Facebook account to post, and I don’t use Facebook. So this new format is great!

SO glad to hear that! I had a feeling there were a number of non-Facebook who were feeling excluded from posting comments. Glad that’s fixed now!
