Though for years my go-to “big bun” style has been the sock bun, I can now say that I have officially converted my loyalties to The Carrie Bradshaw Bun. Unlike the perfectly donut-shaped sock bun, this Sarah Jessica Parker-inspired ‘do is both playful and elegant while not looking like it’s trying too hard. I love it, and I hope you will, too!
The good news is, it’s super easy to do because I made a video to help you out. All you need is hair that is long enough to be pulled up into a bun, a hair tie, a comb to tease the hair with, and some bobby pins.
And also, some good old fashioned written instructions…
Step One: Start by pulling hair up into a high ponytail.
Step Two: Grab a fine-tooth comb and tease the entire ponytail, working in sections. When finished, smooth out the top of the ponytail lightly as needed.
Step Three: Your ponytail is super thick now. Collect the hair at the end of the ponytail, and twist loosely into a bun. (If you can wrap your hair around more than once, it’s not teased enough. Feel free to take a step back and re-tease a bit until you have a good amount of ponytail volume.)
Step Four: Secure the bun with bobby pins, and spray with hairspray for hold if desired.
What celebrity-inspired hairstyles are you loving right now?
P.S. Many of you have asked about my shirt in this video—it’s an oldie from J.Crew, but here’s a similar one.
