glittery gift guide: giving back

My first of four gift guides for Glitter Guide is finally here! This one is all about gifts that will make you feel good—the kind that give back to someone in need just because you made a nice purchase for your friend. I love that! Here’s the full list…

Clockwise from top left:

31 Bits Petunia Necklace ($38): This stunning chunky necklace not only will turn heads at a holiday party, but also serves to give internally displaced women in Northern Uganda an opportunity to counter poverty.

Warby Parker Gift Card ($95): Timelessly classic yet oh-so-hip, every glasses gal will love the gift of Warby Parkers to boost her style this season. The best part? For every pair of glasses they sell, they provide a pair to someone in need.

Sseko Designs Harbor Tote ($240): The perfect carryall tote, made of genuine leather and fully lined in canvas. By gifting this bag, you’re not only ensuring a fabulous investment in your friend’s wardrobe, but also in Ugandan women and their continued education. The proceeds of this tote will go directly to the Sseko Scholarship Fund.

Peet’s Coffee Fair Trade Blend ($15.95 per pound): High quality coffee from people who have been paid fairly for their labor? We like the sound of that! This blend has the distinctive tang and clean character of Central American coffees—smoothed by fuller-bodied coffees from chapters in Indonesia and then finished in the Peet’s roast.

Proud Mary Textiles Cosmetic Bag ($36): This beautiful hand woven cosmetic bag will make any girlfriend smile, and you’ll be supporting global artisans in the developing world when purchasing it.

Radiant Cosmetics Matte Lipstick ($18): Bold lips are a no-fuss way to look fabulous. We love this lipstick from Radiant Cosmetics not only for its quality, but also because for every purchase, they donate time, money, and effort to help fight the injustice of human trafficking.

Hiip Pacific Heights Bag in Faux Black Leather ($65): Slide it around your shoulder or hip, or slide the strap out for a perfect clutch accessory. Any way you wear it, this is a super cute luxury piece that supports helping the homeless! For every bag you buy, they give a kit filled with basic life necessities away to a person in need.

FEED RED Love Bag ($112): The purchase of this adorable tote will help supply approximately 30 days of life saving assistance to people living in the countries hit hardest by HIV/AIDS.

TOMS Gold Glitters ($54): Every glitter girl needs a pair of glitters for her feet! Like Warby Parker, TOMS also has a one-for-one system. For every pair your purchase, they donate one to someone in need.

Raven + Lily Tiffany Kunz Antique Tube Collection Bracelet ($62): This stunning piece was handmade from melted bullet casings and recycled metals by HIV-positive women in Ethiopia. In addition to providing sustainable economic opportunities, Raven + Lily returns proceeds to fund healthcare and literacy programs for women and children in the community.

Will you be buying any gifts that “give back” this year?

    Hello Natalie,
So i feel really strange writing to you considering we have never met and i literally live halfway around the world but… I stumbled upon your blog and have been keeping up when life gives me a couple minutes to browse the world wide web. I have missed your posts recently but when i was cleaning up my inbox and scanning updates from Glitter Guide, i saw this gift guide and thought “that so looks like something Natalie from Thoughts By Natalie would put together.” When i read the fine print (and now scrolling through your blog) i see that it was, in fact, you. This weird feeling of connectedness crept over me- almost like we’re friends who catch up regularly over a cup of tea. I moved to Amsterdam almost 3 years ago for school and left all those near and dear to me back in Indiana. Following your blog makes me feel connected in this crazy busy world of ours. So thank you for sharing your life with the rest of us. It may mean more than you think.
